According to the Sleep Foundation, a group focused on sleep health education, 40-70% of people 65 and older experience chronic sleep problems.
In addition to the standard rules for good sleep hygiene, which include maintaining a cool, dark, and quiet sleep environment and adhering to a consistent bedtime routine, there are other ways to support good sleep.
If you wake up frequently in the middle of the night, the Sleep Foundation suggests making time for meditation during the day.
If you have a busy mind, meditating for five minutes during the day can help ease your brain more at night.
To improve your sleep at night, you can also spend less time in bed during the day, which includes reducing naps.
If nothing else works after a few weeks, consult your doctor.
